Letter for Lezley
Mom, I never thought this day would come where you’d watch me walk that stretch of land to collect my destiny a piece given to me, signed and sealed with ink and my body lying in the street for hours in a pool of water flowing down to me when we swam together and you heard them clap and cheer and say “He had his hands up” but the officer’s narrative changed my tassel from left to right and you cried when they gave you my body, pierced my side and one to the head on my shoulders sat everything you poured into me—I never thought this day would come.
